v. — to aggregate or separate into wooly flocks or tufts

fm. the adjective flocculent, itself from Latin, floccus, meaning a flock (of wool, cotton, etc.)

inspiration. a recent NPR story on the impact of funding cuts on Great Lakes clean-up, including a reduced ability to detect and combat toxic algae blooms, currently detected and combatted using an astoundingly named device, a flocculation chamber.
